ANCT members attend fundraiser for John Cannis

Toronto, ON – A large group of representatives from the Armenian National Committee of Toronto (ANCT) attended this year’s fundr

ANCT representatives Marianne Davitjan, Harout Kassabian, Hratch Aynedjian, Shahen Mirakian (ANCT Chair), Razmig Tchakmakian and Hagop Torossian with Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Official Opposition (Liberal) at the May 28, 2009, fundraiser.

Toronto, ON – A large group of representatives from the Armenian National Committee of Toronto (ANCT) attended this year’s fundraiser for John Cannis, MP Scarborough Centre, on Thursday, May 28, 2009. John has been a great friend of the Armenian Community since October 25th, 1993 first time the Liberal Member of Parliament was elected to the House of Commons. ANCT has endorsed his candidacy every time Mr Cannis has run. Mr Cannis has subsequently been re-elected in the 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008 elections.

During the reception, ANCT representatives were able to spend considerable time discussing issues of concern to the Toronto Armenian community with Michael Ignatieff and other political dignitaries present, including John Cannis, Derek Lee, Logan Kanapathi and Michael Thomson.

“Our attendance at John Cannis’s fundraiser was a very important for the community” expressed Shahen Mirakian “It was our opportunity to congratulate John Cannis for the 15 years of service to our community.” said the Chair of ANCT.
