Toronto, Ontario – The Armenian National Committee of Toronto is a strong supporter of a new course approved by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) entitled “Genocide: Historical and Contemporary Implications”. The new course has been approved by the Ministry of Education and is scheduled to be delivered to grade 11 students starting in September 2008. The course will cover three major episodes of genocide in contemporary history: the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust and the Rwandan Genocide.
Unfortunately, the deniers of the Armenian Genocide have recently begun to lobby against the new curriculum requesting that the TDSB either cancel the course or remove any reference to the Armenian Genocide. Based on these latest developments, the ANCT will be sending each member of the TDSB a (paper-based) petition signed by thousands of Ontarians in support of the course they approved. We ask you to join us in this cause and stand up for the truth, and against denial.
