Toronto, Ontario – A seven-member delegation from The Armenian National Committee of
Toronto attended the official campaign office opening for The Honourable Bob Rae on October 28, 2007. Mr. Rae is the federal Liberal Party’s candidate in Toronto Centre. Although, a byelection date for the riding has not yet been scheduled, one must be called by the end of the year should there not be a general election.
In his remarks to the crowd of approximately 200 people, Mr. Rae stressed the need for strong representation for the riding of Toronto Centre in the House of Commons. The ANCT delegation had the opportunity to speak with Bob during the event, and informed him that the committee has endorsed his candidacy for the riding in the upcoming election.
Bob Rae has been a good friend of the Armenian community for decades, having made
proclamations regarding the Armenian Genocide during his tenure as Premier of Ontario. More
recently, Bob attended the ANCT’s annual Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony in
April 2007, as well as the Armenian Community Centre’s Summerfest in July 2007.
